To: All BMRF/B&P Employees
The purpose of this note is to keep you updated regarding the bargaining between the Company and Union and also on new developments in bargaining at Baytown.
The Beaumont Company and Union bargaining committees met again today, Friday April 30, at the request of the Union.
During this meeting, the Union presented to the Company another proposal which included a number of items that were directly in conflict with the Company’s stated objectives from the beginning of bargaining. As we have shared previously and explained to the Union, these are items that would significantly increase costs and limit the Company’s ability to safely and efficiently operate. We need to position Beaumont for continued success, and as we’ve told the Union, that is what we are seeking in these negotiations. After review and discussion, the Company had to reject this proposal.
It cannot be overstated, as we told the Union, our hope is that the Union will recognize the consideration of the past four months of bargaining that is reflected in the Company’s April 20 current offer. This offer remains on the table, and a ratified contract would avoid the lockout planned for 10 a.m. tomorrow or would end a lockout once initiated. Tonight we again told the Union that we hope they will hold a vote on our offer.
What’s Happening Elsewhere?
For your awareness, we’d like to share the update below on ongoing labor activity down the road at the Baytown Refinery and Chemical Plant.
Over the last two days, the International Association of Machinists (IAM) and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) each separately ratified a 3-year agreement with wage increases of 1%, Me Too, Me Too. The agreements also provide the flexibility and efficiency necessary to the ensure Baytown’s future success.
